As Teyla had many times before, she continued to spend the majority of her meals with her team. While Rodney and John didn't pay a great deal of attention to her choices, Ronon observed in his quiet way.

“So, I was thinking about that settlement we visited last month. They had quite a number of wild animals they complained about. Remember?” John said conversationally as he glared at two marines that walked by, licking their lips lewdly from behind Teyla.

McKay looked up as some imitation cole slaw fell from his fork. “What are you talking about?

“The possibility of getting chickens. Instead of – that,” Sheppard replied, pointing his knife at his friend's tray that had some kind of meat of a snake like creature that was in abundance on the mainland.

“Oh. That'd be good. At least they don't have lemons out here,” he shrugged and went back to eating.

Teyla looked up as she picked what was left her her meal. “I am going to retire early. We had a particularly tiring work out this afternoon,” she smiled as she avoided their eyes as she carried her tray away.

John watched her back with a small frown but tried covering it as he ate his food. Turning back to Rodney, he attempted to pay attention to whatever speech he began about something on the tablet beside him.

Ronon excused himself as he quickly left to follow Teyla, exchanging a fast glance with their friend and team leader. A look that agreed that she needed to be checked on but John was not in the position to do something like that at that moment.

As the Satedan jogged the corridor to catch up with her, he could tell she was not pleased to see him come after her. “I am fine Ronon,” she said softly.

“You have not been finishing your meals. That is if you even take anything,” he commented. “We're just worried about you.”

Teyla smiled slightly as she let out a breath. “I have been to the infirmary, as I have not felt my best. Dr. Beckett has assured me that I am well, given my condition.”

“What condition is that?” he asked with a frown.

“One that is private and will pass when it is ready,” she answered tensely, looking around at the people that passed them within earshot.

“So it is not permanent?”

She bit on her lip as she considered sharing her secret. “I will tell you but not here and you must not tell anyone.”

He frowned at her as he nodded. “Sure,” he said slowly, not knowing what to make of what she would soon tell him.

The two made their way out to a balcony where no one was around without being able to overhear their conversation. Leaning on the ledge, Teyla looked out over the towers and the water. “I had been ill for a few weeks now,” she said softly.

“Yeah,” he nodded. “We noticed. What's wrong Teyla? Just say it.”

She was extremely apprehensive as she looked away pointedly. “I am expecting a child,” she said.

Ronon uncrossed his arms as he leaned back on the rail and let out the breath he had been holding. “Wow...Who's the father? I didn't know you were seeing anyone.”

“I have not. Not as you may think. The man – he and I only spent time together a few times, after missions when we each desired comfort,” she said carefully, looking down at her hands.

“What? Who?” he asked again, initially angry and confused but he settled down when she looked up at him with large eyes. It was then that he knew. “Oh...”

“Please. Do not tell him. I will when I am ready. I just do not know how. Not yet,” she pleaded.

“He needs to know,” Ronon pushed quietly. “But I'll keep my mouth shut. At least until you say somehting but it should be soon. I doubt that you will be able to keep it secret much longer.”

“I will. I will tell him, but not yet. I am not ready,” she smiled weakly as he pulled her into a reassuring hug. “I will...”
