caitriona_3 as her bidding gift and prompt for
fanbingo, vacations and holidays
Walking along the trail, John let out a deep breath and counted to ten for maybe the fiftieth time since the group started off away from the stargate.
"Really is this necessary? I have a million of things that I have to do and make sure that Zelenka does correctly and to not screw up my projects," Rodney babbled on.
Every several feet he would stop and let out another ramble of complaints and Ronon would only shake his head and nudge him forward to keep walking. If he hadn't already been carrying a sack of supplies, he would have likely just threw the scientist over his shoulder so that he didn't hold them back any more.
"No it's not necessary but Weir thought it was a good idea and so do I. It's not like we get vacations often so just having the team away from the city and everything for a few days while things are quiet – just be quiet and relax already," Sheppard repeated.
"Well how much further is it? And where exactly are we going?" McKay sighed, giving in finally.
"It is not far. Perhaps another half hour walk along the river," Teyla said with her usual patient smile from the front of the group on the trail. "I camped here with my father as a child. The water is also rich with life so we will be able to have fresh fish over the fire for supper tonight."
Rodney let out another exaggerated sigh. "Camping? If I had known I would have brought my bug spray..."
Ronon laughed as John had mentioned that he would have said something like that so they purposely packed a can of the stuff. "Is it that deek stuff?" he asked.
"No. It's called Deet. Evidently you guys already planned ahead for this if you remembered that. Fine. I suppose a few days rest won't kill me or the things I'm working on. At least I remembered to bring my tablet with me."
The others could only smile then wince at the thought of what he might do when the power on the device was drained as there was no where for him to charge it. However, for all his complaining, the group would not have it any other way. To replace any one of them would cause such a rift in their dynamic that they just would be as good as they are.
The next few hours was filled with more snarky comments, though of more welcoming nature as they were Rodney's attempts at making jokes. With their tents pitched, fire blazing, and Ronon's successful catches cooking away, everyone sat relaxing around.
John looked at each of them in turn, Teyla trying to smile and remain patient with Rodney's explanations of something on his tablet and Ronon watching them as well in amusement while he turned the fish over... He couldn't help but turn his eyes up to the stars above them and wonder about everyone else, especially the ones they lost. A small smile came to his lips as he knew that he would do whatever he could to keep the Wraith at bay and keep his family here together. Another look around the fire at his friends and he repeated the words in his head again. My family.
