Summary: Written for [livejournal.com profile] stargateland theme week, day four prompt, 31- SGA, John Sheppard, John overhears something his teammates said when they didn't know he was nearby

John figured that he would play nice with the scientists and his people for the afternoon by volunteering to help them move things around in one of the labs. As he was coming back from bringing some containers to the storage area, he happened by Rodney's office where his friend was talking with the rest of the team.

He was about to stop in to say hi when he heard his name mentioned. Curiosity getting the better of him, he stayed by the door so that he could eavesdrop in, wanting to know why they were talking about him this time.

“Sheppard is more blind than a freaking deaf bat,” Rodney complained. “That woman could not make it more obvious to him that she wants him...and I don't just mean in bed!”

Huh? John thought, wondering who they were talking about. Did he miss on someone trying to flirt with him or something? If he did, then she was probably really ugly – not that he would actually say it.

He could hear Teyla sigh. “Dr. Gutierrez told me that she was not going to pursue him. She is well aware of his tendencies but she does not want him to feel any more guilty.”

Elsa? Why would she...oooh!

“He's an idiot,” was all Ronon said.

“We should set them up on a blind date with each other or something,” McKay suggested. “I mean, even I see that he smiles more after she joins us for lunch or dinner, or whatever in the mess hall.”

“I do not think that is wise Rodney,” Teyla shook her head. “It might hurt Dr. Gutierrez more. You are aware she and I have become good friends. She did confide in me that she never did get over John and is still very much in love with him even if he may not share the same feelings.”

John leaned his head against the wall and sighed to himself. He actually did have the same feelings as he did for the doctor. She was one of the few people that really understood him other than Elizabeth and his team. Maybe even more so.

“He needs to do something before she finds someone else. I've overheard a few of the Marines talking that they wanted to ask her out,” Ronon added.

Oh hell no! John nearly screamed in his head and was ready to walk in at hearing that but the sound of chairs scraping the floor indicating that his friends were getting up. Quickly he made his way around the corner until the coast was clear.

He heard Teyla and Rodney continue to talk as they headed down the hall when he started back towards the lab only to find Ronon standing where he had been, waiting.

“Eh hey Ronon! How's it going?” Sheppard greeted, trying to not sound like he just heard everything he did.

“You need to talk to her. She isn't going to wait for you forever you know,” was all he said before leaving John to himself.

“Yeah, I know,” he said to the empty air. “And I will tonight...”
